Enjoy!

These are actual analogies and metaphors found in high
school essays.

- John and Mary had never met. They were like two
hummingbirds who had also never met.

- He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she
was the East River.

- Even in his last years, grandpappy had a mind like a steel
trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted
shut.

- Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.

- The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But
unlike Phil, this plan just might work.

- The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from
not eating for a while.

- He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck,
either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from
stepping on a landmine or something.

- The Ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one
slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.

- It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids
with power tools.

- He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard
bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

- Her eyes were like limpid pools, only they had forgotten
to put in any pH cleanser.

- She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing
legs.

- Her voice had that tense grating quality, like a
generation thermal paper fax machine that needed a band
tightening.

- It hurt the way your tongue hurts after you accidentally
staple it to the wall.

Busy Busy Busy!!!!

We get to read all kinds of literature in my AP English III class, but we are currently working on Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. It's a neat, well written book about truth and illusion. On the surface it's a humorous poke at society and religion, but it goes deeper. Of course i'm not sure exactly how it goes deeper since I haven't finished reading it yet... :)
It's about a made up religion and the main chatracter's interactions with the guy who invented the atom bomb, the guy's kids, some Hoosiers, native island people, and some really weird ice.

It is a good book though, so if anyone is looking for some reading material, I would suggest Cat's Cradle.

Finally, A post!

Hi! Long time, no blog. All that pesky school stuff, you know? :) I'm sooo excited, next week I'm going to visit the college I want to go to. I haven't even seen the campus yet, but I've heard great things and I'm really looking foward to going there. I'm only a junior, but I have my entire college career planned out. Gee, I even know which dorm I want to stay in! (I have serious planning ahead issues) Not only are my shelves full of books on how to survive college, I've also started looking at books about what to do once you graduate and get into the real world. ;)

In other news, I'm getting into candle making. I just ordered my first batch of supplies this afternoon after weeks of careful deliberation. I'm starting out with small votive candles and I'll see how that goes over. I'm going to try selling them to cover some of my costs. Anyone interested!? Once I actually make some sucessfully, I'll put pictures on here so you can see how it's going.

Sorry I don't have more pictures on my blog. I don't have an easy way to get them onto my comp. I'm still working on that. . .

Well, that's all for now folks!!!

2007

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!

It's the first day in 2007! Yea! 2006 was a great year, hopefully 2007 will be the same. I don't have any new years resolutions as of right now, but I may think of some along the way. Kinda defeats the purpose, but oh well. :)

I've been enjoying my time off of school, celebrating Christmas, building rockets with my dad, visiting my grandparents at their christmas tree farm, yep, it's been a good vacation. However, all good things must come to an end, and alas I must return to school on Wednesday. *sniff* It will be fine though, because my awful geography class is finally over!!! In it's place I'm taking pre-calculus, which I am very excited about. (No, really :)) I'm switching out PSAT with Genetics, which should also be cool. Last but not least, my Trigonometry class is being replaced with Theater II. I like Trig, I like Theater, it all evens out, just don't think too hard about it.

Well, that's my first rambling post of 2007, maybe it helped you get that much needed nap. :)

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!

A moment for Christmas...

Since it's Cristams Eve, I thought a little scripture passage was in order.

In those days Caesar Agustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman World. ... And everyone went to his home town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, becuse he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and peace to men on whom his favor rests."

When the angles had left them and gone into heaven, the shepards said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

This simple story about Jesus' birth here on earth reminds us of the reason for the festive holidays. The secular Christmas is fun, but don't forget the real cause to celebrate. Merry Christmas, and may God bless your holidays.

Merry Christmas!

So, It's Christmas time again! It really seemed to come fast this year. It seems like a week ago that I was freaking out over my class scedules a day before school started. I enrolled in AP English III, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Trig and Pre-Cal, and a really awsome class code named creative writting. It had to be code named because there is no accredited class to teach skills for the PSAT/NMSQT test. Yep, it's been an interesting year, and now it's half over.

I just have to add this. Because of that PSAT class and the awsome teachers, I made a 210 on my test. That is well above the historical cut off score for National Merit Semifinalist in Mississippi. Ok, I'll shut up about it now. :))

Anyway, all my classes have been great except for the AP Chemistry. I'm not even going to go into that right now, you would be reading all day long!!!

So, hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a happy new year!!!!

Coke-a-Cola

This is a really random, although cool and intersting, tidbit I just read off of some really random blog. :) It's what happens to your body when you drink a coke. Kinda makes me want to stick with water.

In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.

20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get it’s hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)

40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dialate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.

45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.

>60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.

>60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.

>60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

So yeah, I'm steering clear of cokes for awhile.

Penny

Since I mentioned my sister's dog, Penny, in my bit about myself, I thought some pictures of the cuteness were in order. :)

She is a Welch Corgie- Chahuahua- Dachshund mix. I am now the proud owner of my very own internet page. I still retain my opposition to facebook and myspace, but maybe my sister will be able to cange my mind about that too. ;)

As you can see, the title on my bit of world wide web is Lutheran Linguist. I'm not actually a linguist since the only languages I speak fluently are English and the ones I make up randomly, but I like languages and I'm trying to learn as many as possible. Right now I have two years of Latin, scattered Sign Language, and half a year of German under my belt. I'm trying to teach myself Polish in my spare time, which means I haven't looked at my Polish in a long time. As for the Lutheran part, yes, I really am Lutheran- perhaps the only teenage one in the state of Mississippi. -_0

So, I think I will go rejoin the real world now (oh wait, I must have missed the memo, the internet is the real world now!) I will continue in my efforts to learn many many languages, and my efforts to convince the good people of Mississippi that Lutheranism is indeed a Christain faith and not a satanic cult, as so many believe.
